Sing to the LORD a new song...(Psalm 98:1)
It’s time we sing a new “song” for the current “song” of political anger, vitriol, division, hatred, condescension, insults, mockery, and disputes isn’t the “song” of love, mercy, non-violence, peace, unity, compassion, kindness, and understanding that the LORD preached and demonstrated in His life! The current “song” is that of the Pharisees who cared more about power and political reign than the Kingdom of God that was upon them. And, here we are today, 2000 years later still arguing about taxes, power, and individual honors instead of service, love, and our sisters and brothers who are in need. And, here we are today, 2000 years later with leaders on both sides of the aisle who continue to heap hefty burdens upon us while they get the very best of everything—healthcare, tax breaks, personal wealth, etc. When will we come together and put the LORD’s ways ahead of the world’s?!?! When will we put loving our neighbor ahead of insulting our neighbor? When will we put mercy ahead of proving others wrong? When will we sing the new “song” that gives praise to God instead of a politician and earthly power? Let us sing to the LORD, my sisters and brothers in Christ, in our thoughts, words, and deeds, and then we shall be part of the Kingdom of God that transforms our community, country, and world! Amen!
