Thus I aspire to proclaim the Gospel...(From Romans 15:14-21)
What do you aspire to? Riches? Power? Beauty? Sexual attractiveness? A bigger house? A fancier car? A second home? A faster boat? Notoriety? Popularity? Bigger muscles? A smaller gut? St. Paul chose an aspiration that we should emulate...spreading the Gospel! Maybe we can't write as he did, perhaps we won't sail the high seas to share the Good News of Christ, we probably won't convert our jailers or entire communities to the faith, but we can proclaim the Gospel by our lives! We can love, we can serve, we can forgive, we can put others ahead of ourselves, we can humble ourselves, we can avoid seats of honor and positions of power, we can be honest, we can be patient, we can be kind, we can keep the Commandments, we can live out the Beatitudes, we can pray for our enemies, we can feed the hungry, we can give drink to the thirsty, we can visit the sick or imprisoned...by these we are proclaiming the Gospel and by these examples we can be like St. Paul and make our aspirations holy and pure! My dear sisters and brothers in Christ, what we aspire to on earth will determine our eternal resting place...what will you do today? Amen!
